Dubbers was approved for Physical Therapy at 9 months and then Occupational Therapy about 6 months later, thru Early Intervention.  He received these services for some time in our home; however, I eventually realized these sessions may be more effective in a different environment.  It was my EI Service Coordinator who introduced me to the term, Sensory Gym, and agreed it could be more suitable depending on the child and his/her particular therapy goals.  I also found it to be nice to give Dubbers a change in scenery, as he was basically stuck in our apartment all day between his full schedule of other therapy sessions.  It is a gym-like atmosphere and has all of the special and specific equipment needed to promote the gross and/or fine motor skills being targeted.
